The word ‘Stress’ has become one of the biggest problems of today’s time. It’s everywhere nowadays and one cannot overlook that. It is absolutely true that there is no stress-free job in the present day. Every individual is running here and there in order to achieve something great in life. And the fact is that we are stressed out at our workplace. The constant pressure that is associated in this fast-paced world has actually generated an environment where everyone experiences the effects of stress. The same is the case with jobs too.
In the present day, it has been estimated that 40% of the US residents complain that their jobs are extremely stressful and nerve-racking. Well, the good news that would bring a smile on every individual’s face is that the stress level on the whole has declined since a year. This is basically owing to the economic conditions of US. The way the country and its economy is growing to some extent, the amount stress levels continue to fall. Overall, the hiring outlook has also improved a bit along with the entire stress level.
The jobs search websites looks at more or less 200 jobs almost every year and then rate those jobs as per their stress level. The amount of stress level is based on various criteria which include: whether your life is at risk; whether the surrounding is dangerous; do you have steady deadlines; and what is the hiring point of view?
Now let’s talk about the most stressful jobs in US for the year 2014:
Military Jobs: As far as risk and danger is concerned, military jobs are extremely stressful. The enlisted officers or personnel have to travel over and over again, they have to carry out their work as exposed to public inspection, and last but not the least they have little say about how they actually spend their valuable time at work. They have to stay separated from their families for quite a long time; say months or at times years.
Firefighters: The competitiveness and physical demand is quite high in case of a firefighter’s job. To protect the environmental conditions and save lives of many individuals is what they do. The hazards that they come across cannot be measured actually in terms of stress level. They do not worry about their own well-being and are accountable for the lives of the victims.
Senior Corporate Executives: They are the ones whose lives are quite hectic. Traditionally, they are responsible for the employees who are working in their company. Moreover, if it is a Public Ltd Company, then they are accountable for their shareholders. The corporate executives need to travel a lot and they work like a machine all the year round.
Public Relation Executive: Though many people may believe that the jobs of PR executives are not that stressful. But it is not the truth. They are the ones who wine and dine with friends and with business associates, in fact they come across regular rejections from people. They receive nearly 100 e-mails in a day which at times become difficult to check.
The amount of stress can be determined by looking at the demands and calamities inherited through the job. All the jobs have their own stress level; however, new researches demonstrate that some have more as compared to others. It has been revealed that the employees who are putting their lives in danger have most stressful jobs. Some of the other jobs that are incredibly nerve-racking are newspaper reporter and event coordinator as they need to meet the tight deadlines within the public eye.
You may wonder why I wrote this post. My intention was not to increase your stress more in relation to the above mentioned jobs; if you intend to work in similar profiles. Every profile has its own stress levels and good points. At the end of the day, it all boils down to how you manage this stress.
